Read this before Building in Westwood!

The Westwood Civic Club Report:

The Civic Club was recently called upon to get involved in a dispute between a homeowner and the people building a new house next door to them.  We’re not going to go into details except to say that both parties had good intentions and both believed themselves to be in the right.  But the takeaways from this experience reaffirm what we have been saying: that the Westwood Civic Club can be a valuable resource for both people who are building new homes and/or renovating/adding on to existing homes, and those who may be adversely affected by this construction.

But our good-faith efforts to provide knowledgeable information and impartial guidance are contingent upon getting the Civic Club engaged early in the building process.  Our position is this:  we want to help protect our property values and maintain the residential nature of the subdivision.  That means protecting the main tool we have as owners, which is Deed Restrictions.   Our job is not picking winners or losers, but we will do everything in our power to help owners enforce our deed restrictions.  Too many times the City of Houston approves plans for new homes or renovations that violate our Deed Restrictions.  All too often plans are approved by the City that simply have to state, without any proof, that they are not violating Deed Restrictions.

When this happens, things tend to go downhill for the whole process if there are problems related to Deed Restriction violations.  Delays cost money and time and no one needs that.  In order to get ahead of this process before it gets into contentious mode, the Civic Club has created signs (see below) which will be posted on any new construction site in Westwood.  Please take advantage of this free service to make sure the building process goes smoothly regarding Deed Restrictions.
