What’s happening in the Wild, Wild Westwood!

Changes and Happenings… a recap of the current (and strange) events in Westwood

  • New Restaurant in Westwood:  Pepe’s Burgs and Margs – 9920 Stella Link Rd. nest door to Corpus Christi Catholic Church – offers classic American cuisine with a Mexican twist.  Open for lunch or dinner, Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays.   Mouth-watering burgers, sandwiches, nachos, and more! Wash it all down with a refreshing margarita or cerveza. The food is really good so please stop by.
  • Work has FINALLY begun on clearing out the junk, debris and trees out of Ditch 136, the ditch that runs on the Westwood side of the Union Pacific Railroad t looks good.  South of West Bellfort and all the way south to Willowbend, the ditch is maintained by the City of Houston.  Westwood Civic Club has tried for years to get Public Works to do their job and keep the ditch clear.  When they don’t water backs up into the four storm sewers that empty into the ditch and causes major flooding along Bassoon and streets that run into Bassoon.

Now, through help from City Councilman Robert Gallegos (who happens to be running in November for Mayor,) things have started.  The Westwood Board is meeting soon with our own city councilwoman, Martha Castex-Tatum (District K,)  to further explain the flooding problem from Ditch 136 as well as the flooding that occurs on Stella Link.

Our Flooding and Traffic Committee has also published a Facebook site called WESTWOOD FLOODING that gives more details, lots of photos and videos to show what need to be corrected by the City of Houston: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094492314687

Ditch 136 looking north from West Bellfort – it’s clear and no debris all the way north to Braes Bayou, two miles away. July 2023.
Ditch 136 looking south from West Bellfort – it’s completely overgrown and full of debris – July 2023.
